Paul Fong for State Assembly, CA's 28th District

Dear Friend,
Election day is 8 days away, and advocates of animal protection need to know who is
standing up for their interests. The Humane Society Legislative Fund is the
non-partisan political arm of the humane movement, and we want you to know that
Paul Fong is a friend of animal protection.
We're encouraging animal advocates to support Paul Fong for
California’s 28th State Assembly district.
Paul Fong is a member of the Animal
Protection Caucus and has been a champion for animal protection in the
California State Assembly. Among his many efforts, Paul Fong has:
- Authored AB 376 to prohibit the possession,
sale, trade and distribution of shark fin. Shark fin soup and related products
drives the cruel practice of cutting off a shark’s fin, often while the animal
is still alive, and then the shark is thrown back into the sea.
- Voted for SB 425 to increase fines and create
parity with dogfighting in the Penal Code allowing for the forfeiture of
property obtained using illegal profits gained through cockfighting activities.
- Voted for SB 702 to create a cost-effective way
to reunite pets and owners and reduce local agency costs associated with
holding, re-homing or euthanizing animals.
- Voted for SB 917 to ban the sale of animals in
parking lots and along roadsides, and increases fines and possible jail time
for those convicted of felony animal neglect.
- Voted for AB 564 to re-establish the Municipal
Shelter Spay-Neuter Fund, allowing for voluntary contributions by taxpayers on
their annual income tax returns.
- Voted for AB 1117 to amend the Penal Code to
prohibit criminals convicted of animal cruelty from owning animals for a
specified period of time after their conviction.
- Voted for SB 1221 to ban hound hunting of bears and
bobcats.
- Voted for AB 1437 to require that all eggs sold in California
comply with modest animal welfare and food safety standards consistent
with Prop 2, a ballot measure overwhelmingly approved by statewide voters.
Paul Fong is a friend of animals and we encourage you to
vote for him on November 6. Please forward this email to friends and family and
share it on Facebook.
Thanks
for all you do for animals.
Sincerely,

Mike Markarian President Humane Society Legislative Fund
