Fran Pavley for State Senate, CA's 27th District

Dear Friend,
Election day is 8 days away, and advocates of animal protection need to know who is
standing up for their interests. The Humane Society Legislative Fund is the
non-partisan political arm of the humane movement, and we want you to know that
Fran Pavley is a friend of animal protection.
We're encouraging animal advocates to support Fran Pavley
for California’s 27th State Senate district.
Fran Pavley has been a champion and strong
supporter for animal protection in the California State Senate. Among her many
efforts, she has:
- Authored California
SB 1229, the first ever state law in the US prohibiting landlords from
requiring tenants to declaw or devocalize their animals.
- Voted for SB 1221 to ban hound hunting of bears and
bobcats.
- Voted for AB 376 to prohibit the possession,
sale, trade and distribution of shark fin.
- Voted for SB 425 to increase fines and create
parity with dogfighting in the Penal Code allowing for the forfeiture of
property obtained using illegal profits gained through cockfighting activities.
- Voted for SB 702 to create a cost-effective way
to reunite pets and owners and reduce local agency costs associated with
holding, re-homing or euthanizing animals.
- Voted for SB 917 to ban the sale of animals in
parking lots and along roadsides, and increases fines and possible jail time
for those convicted of felony animal neglect.
- Voted for AB 258 to create uniform mechanism for
rabies vaccination exemption for a dog when a veterinarian advises it may be
risky, harmful or potentially lethal.
- Voted for AB 564 to re-establish the Municipal
Shelter Spay-Neuter Fund, allowing for voluntary contributions by taxpayers on
their annual income tax returns.
- Voted for AB 1117 to amend the Penal Code to
prohibit criminals convicted of animal cruelty from owning animals for a
specified period of time after their conviction.
- Voted for AB 1121 to save dogs’ lives by
addressing barriers to licensing and improving local government funding for
animal care/control activities.
- Voted for AB 1437 to require that all eggs sold in California
comply with modest animal welfare and food safety standards consistent
with Prop 2, a ballot measure overwhelmingly approved by statewide voters.
- Voted for AB 1656
to require any garment including any animal fur to be labeled with the
species and country of origin.
- Voted for AB 2411
to require better, clearer price and coverage disclosures by pet insurers.
- Voted against SB
1345 allowing the import and sale of any part or product of kangaroos by
extending the sunset provision in the existing law.
- Voted for SJR 22 to
support federal legislation that would protect
horses in America from slaughter for human consumption.
- Consistently scored 100% on the HSLF Humane Scorecard for the
California legislature.
