Fran Pavley for State Senate

Dear Friend,

Election day is less than two weeks away, and advocates of animal protection need to know who is standing up for their interests. The Humane Society Legislative Fund is the non-partisan political arm of the humane movement, and we want you to know that Fran Pavley is a friend of animal protection.

We're encouraging animal advocates to support Fran Pavley for California’s 27th State Senate district.

Fran Pavley has been a champion and strong supporter for animal protection in the California State Senate. Among her many efforts, she has:

  • Authored California SB 1229, the first ever state law in the US prohibiting landlords from requiring tenants to declaw or devocalize their animals.
  • Voted for SB 1221 to ban hound hunting of bears and bobcats.
  • Voted for AB 376 to prohibit the possession, sale, trade and distribution of shark fin.
  • Voted for SB 425 to increase fines and create parity with dogfighting in the Penal Code allowing for the forfeiture of property obtained using illegal profits gained through cockfighting activities.
  • Voted for SB 702 to create a cost-effective way to reunite pets and owners and reduce local agency costs associated with holding, re-homing or euthanizing animals.
  • Voted for SB 917 to ban the sale of animals in parking lots and along roadsides, and increases fines and possible jail time for those convicted of felony animal neglect.
  • Voted for AB 258 to create uniform mechanism for rabies vaccination exemption for a dog when a veterinarian advises it may be risky, harmful or potentially lethal.
  • Voted for AB 564 to re-establish the Municipal Shelter Spay-Neuter Fund, allowing for voluntary contributions by taxpayers on their annual income tax returns.
  • Voted for AB 1117 to amend the Penal Code to prohibit criminals convicted of animal cruelty from owning animals for a specified period of time after their conviction.
  • Voted for AB 1121 to save dogs’ lives by addressing barriers to licensing and improving local government funding for animal care/control activities.
  • Voted for AB 1437 to require that all eggs sold in California comply with modest animal welfare and food safety standards consistent with Prop 2, a ballot measure overwhelmingly approved by statewide voters.
  • Voted for AB 1656 to require any garment including any animal fur to be labeled with the species and country of origin.
  • Voted for AB 2411 to require better, clearer price and coverage disclosures by pet insurers.
  • Voted against SB 1345 allowing the import and sale of any part or product of kangaroos by extending the sunset provision in the existing law.
  • Voted for SJR 22 to support federal legislation that would protect horses in America from slaughter for human consumption.
  • Consistently scored 100% on the HSLF Humane Scorecard for the California legislature.

Fran Pavley is a friend of animals and we encourage you to vote for her on November 6. Please forward this email to friends and family and share it on Facebook.

Thanks for all you do for animals.
