Save Seals. Boycott Canadian Seafood.
Dear Friend,
Baby seals face enough trouble. Each year, climate change takes its toll, melting the ice that the pups need to survive.
You'd think this would be enough to stop the Canadian commercial seal hunt -- the largest slaughter of marine mammals in the world. But Canada and the commercial fishermen who club, shoot, and skin seal pups for fashion will not call it off.
Equally appalling is that on average these fishermen earn only a tiny fraction of their incomes from killing seals -- the majority comes from snow crabs, cod, cold water shrimp, and other seafood.
Our purchasing power is our strength -- we can use it to help seals. Tell Canada and its fishing industry: "I will not buy Canadian seafood until the commercial seal slaughter ends." Click here to automatically join the boycott.
Clearly, the world is moving beyond the commercial seal slaughter. Since 2006, seal fur prices in Canada have dropped over 80 percent. Now Russia -- reportedly responsible for the bulk of seal fur exports from Canada in some years -- has banned its trade in harp seal pelts.
Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans says the only way it will shut down the commercial seal slaughter for good is when Canada's fishing industry asks it to do so.
Take a stand for baby seals: You can impact the fishing industry's bottom line by joining hundreds of thousands of others who refuse to buy Canadian seafood. Click here to add your name automatically.
If everyone who cares about protecting seals joins the boycott, I have hope that the Canadian government and its fishing industry will finally listen to the global outcry.
Thank you for doing your part for baby seals.
