Sacramento, CA: Protect Wildlife from Hounding - June 26
State Capitol

We've come a long way in the fight to protect bears, bobcats, and dogs from the inhumane and unsporting practice of hounding, and, thanks to you, the end is near. Your support for Senate Bill 1221 helped pass this important legislation through the Senate last month, and now we need to do the same in the Assembly.

June 26 is your opportunity to continue speaking up for animals and truly make a difference! On this day, the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee will be holding a hearing on important legislation (SB 1221) to prohibit the use of packs of hounds to pursue bears and bobcats. SB 1221, by State Senator Ted Lieu, is a long overdue reform. Currently, a minority of states allows chasing down of bears with hounds and California is one of them.

Please join other animal advocates and humane Californians on the morning of June 26 to say "I support SB 1221." The houndsmen will turn out in force for this hearing, and those who are among the 83% of California voters who support a ban on the unsporting, inhumane and unnecessary practice need to be represented. Each person showing up counts. The Humane Society of the United States' California state director will be there and happy to help make your advocacy experience a positive one. RSVP today to lend your voice for animals and make a difference in California. Contact Samantha Hagio if you have additional questions.
